the ingredients used in Dr Wendy's® skin care products are
plant derived and have a long history
of safe use within aromatherapy, skin care and herbal medicine. The
oils and extracts are known to replenish and revitalize dehydrated, dry
and mature aging skin.
Expiry dates are 3 years from date of manufacture and 18 months once
opened. Each product is packaged in
a sealed 50 ml lightweight airless pump/spray container and delivered
in a recycled cardboard box which contains all ingredients and
relevant information.

The
majority of Dr Wendy's hydrosols are produced from organically grown
plants. However, according to varying worldwide organic certifying standards
these cannot be counted as part of the organic content. The
percentage of organic
ingredients has been calculated as a percentage of VOLUME of the
formula of eligible ingredients (excluding
the hydrosol
content).
Due to weather
fluctuations and varied growing conditions from
year to
year it is quite normal for some oils to have a slight seasonal
variation in colour and aroma. Although this may affect the
appearance of the end product it will not alter it's efficacy.

Why Compromise Your Health by Settling For Less Than 100% botanical?
Not only do regular skincare products contain
synthetic chemical
ingredients but many Aromatherapy and botanical skin care products are
also often found to
include harmful ingredients.
In many
instances these are not readily apparent due to incomplete
ingredient lists
advertised. It's not until you receive the product that you find
undesirable ingredients on the label.
Has this
happened to you? It used to happen to me. Now I dig deep and
when total ingredients are not provided I by-pass the product.
Here are a
few examples of synthetic chemical ingredients I've
found in botanical skin care products:-
Triethanolamine
(TEA)...
an alkaline
dispersing agent and a known skin irritant
Methylisothiazolinone...
preservative -
can cause allergic reactions, irritating to eyes and skin
Phenoxyethanol...
common cosmetic
preservative - has been linked to skin and eye
irritations (personally experienced by myself - RJC)
Idopropynl
butylcarbamate... iodine-based preservative, restricted in
Japan.
Formaldehyde...
an inexpensive,
effective preservative used widely as a
disinfectant, germicide, fungicide and de-foamer. Banned in Japan and
Sweden
due to safety
concerns.
Parabens
- methyl, propyl, butyl ethyl...
known to be
toxic, allergic reactions, skin rashes.
Grapefruit Seed
Extract...
commercial grade
grapefruit seed extract has several synthetic chemicals added during
processing. The USDA
National Organic Program classifies grapefruit seed extract as a
synthetic chemical and
is not permitted in organic products approved by them. GSE article here.
DID YOU KNOW...
Non certified organic skincare doesn't have to include ingredients
which comprise less than 1% on their labels.
It's common to find
healthy
sounding ingredients at
less than 1% included on labels but chemical
preservatives at less than 1% aren't shown.
These small amounts can cause reactions as I found out.
Personally I
have not knowingly
used any products with synthetic chemicals for 11 years. However, I
trialed a new product only to
find I could barely see next morning due to
swelling. My investigation showed chemical preservatives at
less than 1% - RJC

Natural
antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E found in rosehip seed oil assist the
skin's natural ability to heal itself.
A, C and E must be sourced naturally to be free of synthetic chemicals.
The most effective skin creams are those which are quickly absorbed
rather than sitting on your skin. This means the helpful antioxidants
reach the deeper layers of skin where skin damage
is repaired.
External
Factors Which Affect
Skin Condition
Continued sun exposure causes sunspots and dry skin. Sun's rays lower
collagen production meaning less skin
elasticity.
Natural vitamin C is known to assist production of collagen
encouraging stronger skin.
Damage from UV rays appears to lessen when skin is adequately
moisturised with creams containing only healthy ingredients.
Cold climates can cause dry skin and flaking.
Antibacterial soaps can deydrate skin.
Frequent washing with hot water removes protective skin oils leaving
skin open to infection.
Products containing an alcohol ingredient - eg some toners - strip skin
moisture.
Smoking causes skin aging. Nicotine intake speeds up skin cell
breakdown.

Essential Rose Oil From
Organically Grown Rosa
Damascena Is Used in
many Dr Wendy's botanical Skin Care Products
DID YOU KNOW...
Essential rose oil (Rose Otto) is produced from Damask roses - (Rosa
Damascena).
Damask roses grow wild in many countries and have been introduced to
Europe from the Middle East.
Cultivation in Iran dates
back to 700AD but Turkey
and Bulgaria are the major
suppliers of essential rose oil. Each has valleys above 900 metres
ideally suited to Rosa Damascena cultivation.
Picking flowers for distillation is very labour intensive. This
is done manually usually
every second day between
5 and 11am. Oil content is highest early morning as the flowers open.
The harvesting season lasts 6 - 8 weeks.
Entire flowers are picked and average workers will harvest 40 kgs in 6
hours. Distilling commences upon harvest completion.
The quantity of essential rose oil in the petals is minute. NZ Crop and
Food Research conducted trials which yielded 0.1 to 0.2 mls oil per 1
kg of
flowers.
This equates to approx 5 tonnes of flowers to obtain 1 litre essential
rose oil by distillation.
This is why pure essential rose oil obtained by distillation
is expensive.
By re-distilling the by-product rose water, yields of oil can treble.
Be Aware
of Chemical
Extraction
Methods
Chemical extraction using
hexane solvent yields up to 10 times more rose oil.
Hexane is produced by the refining of crude oil. Inhaling hexane can
cause headaches, nausea, nerve damage and leg/arm paralysis.
A major use for solvents
containing n-hexane is to
extract vegetable oils from crops including soybeans.
Chemically extracted oils, including rose oil is not permitted in
certified organic or genuine 100% botanical skin care products.
